日本の大手化学メーカーとJVを組み、バイオPBS（ポリブチレンサクシネート Poly Butylene Succinate）事業に参入することを計画している
その用途は食品包装フィルムや農業用フィルムである。昨今、海洋マイクロプラスチックスの存在が問題になる中、生分解性プラスチックであるPBSのニーズは今後増えると考えている。当社のJVでは、通常のPBSよりさらに一歩進んだ天然原料由来のバイオPBSのニーズも高まるものと予測している。
しかしながら、その主原材料の1つであるバイオコハク酸は、日本メーカーでは製造していない。そのため、バイオコハク酸で先行している中国メーカーからの調達したい意向である。
なお、弊社のパートナーである大手化学メーカーについては開示ができない。理由は、現時点では同社が当JVについて正式リリースしておらず、上場企業であることに鑑みると、株価に影響を与えかねないためである。
現時点での想定として、2021年に試験生産を行う予定である。そのため、まずは2020年中にパイロット生産用としてバイオコハク酸を調達したい。商業生産開始後の生産規模としては、年間10,000トン程度を想定している。
We have launched a joint venture with a major Japanese chemical company in biodegradable PBS (Poly Butylene Succinate) business.
Its main application will be food-packing film and agricultural film. As plastic waste in the ocean in the form of “microplastics” has become a global issue in recent years, we assume that the needs for PBS, which is one of the biodegradable plastics, will grow. We established this joint venture based on our estimation that the needs for “naturally-derived” biodegradable PBS, which is a more advanced and eco-friendly product, will also grow in the near future.
However, we don’t have domestic manufactures in Japan of bio-based succinic acid, which is one of the primary ingredients. China is ahead of Japan in this regard, therefore, we’d like to purchase it from a Chinese manufacturer.
As for the name of our partner, a major Japanese chemical company, it cannot be revealed at this stage because they haven’t officially announced this joint venture project yet and it could affect their stock price if we reveal the company name.
At present, we aim to start commercial production in 2021; prior to that, pilot production is planned in 2020, for which we’d like to purchase bio-based succinic acid. We estimate that the production scale will be approximately ten thousand tons annually once commercial production has started.
